Orange County Supervisor of Elections Condemns Hate Symbols Near Early Voting Location

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Orange County Supervisor of Elections Karen Castor Dentel is informing the public of a recent discovery of a series of swastikas painted on trees near the Taft Community Center Early Voting location. Upon discovering the symbols, the Supervisor immediately condemned the display and began coordinating with Orange County government and local leaders to have them removed. The Supervisor’s Office has also notified the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, which is investigating the incident.

“These symbols represent a history of hatred, antisemitism, and violence. Their presence in our community is deeply disturbing and unacceptable,” said Supervisor Castor Dentel. “Hatred has no place in our community, and it has no place in our elections.”

Following the discovery, the Supervisor’s office began coordinating with Orange County government to have the symbols removed as quickly as possible. The circumstances surrounding the incident and the intent of whoever was responsible are not known. However, the significance of these symbols and their potential impact on members of the community should not be overlooked.

“No one should have to encounter symbols of hate and wonder whether they are welcome or safe in the place where they live, work, vote, or participate in their community,” said Castor Dentel.

The Taft Community Center Early Voting location, along with all 27 Early Voting locations throughout Orange County, remain open. Voter intimidation is unlawful. Florida and federal laws protect the right to vote free from threats, coercion, and intimidation. The Orange County Supervisor of Elections Office takes these protections seriously and remains committed to upholding them.
